Here are some of the common bodyboarding features explained for you. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact us by emailing us at sales@bodyboardshop.com or call us on 0402 702 567 (Aust) or +61 402 702 567 (International Customers).

Board Specifications

Length This is the overall length of the board.
Nose Width This is the finished nose width of the board, including rail skins. Wider boards work best in small, weaker surf as they provide more flotation to get you through the sections. Narrower boards are suited for bigger, more powerful waves.
Wide point This is the distance from the nose to the widest point of the board. The distance from the nose will determine the overall template. A high wide-point is suited to prone boards. A lower wide-point is best suited to versatile and drop-knee boards.
Rail • 50/50: An even blend between top rail (chine) and bottom rail. Best for smaller, lighter riders in small surf.
• 60/40: 60% bottom rail and 40% (chine). The original rail set-up and standard for riders in powerful surf.
Tail A narrow tail will make the board loose and easy to release for spins and quick turns. A wider tail will pick up speed faster than a narrow tail, but is harder to turn.
Chine This is the part of the bodyboard's rail that wraps over the side of the bodyboard from the deck. It's usually much smaller than the bottom part of the rail.
Template This term refers to the basic shape or outline of the bodyboard (i.e. narrow nose, wide nose, etc).

Cores

Polyethylene Core (PE) 2.5pcf Extruded Polyethylene core for colder waters and riders wanting flex.
Polypro Core (PP)/ Kinetic PP (KPP) state of the art engineered Bodyboard core. A lightweight core that is fusion formed to create a nucleus that delivers incredible flexural properties, including instant recoil, enhanced longitudinal stiffness and awesome compression strength. 100% waterproof.
3D Core 3D core features various sandwich lamination combinations, each specifically engineered to give the boards different flex response targeted for specific waves and conditions.
EPS Core Extreme composite core that is strong and lightweight offering great flex, speed and flotation. 100% waterproof.
FRC/Paradox Cell PC composition is the next generation of controlled flex with lightweight beaded cell technology. Paradox creates an even flow of energy transfer throughout the core in critical situations to maximise your control with excellent recoil for rail-to-rail surfing in all climates.
Parabolic Flex System or PFS (patent pending) This magic combination features a 1.9lbs Kinetic core centre, thermo-bonded to the flexible outer rail edge profiles via two vertical 'beams'. The vertical beams are constructed from T90, a high-strength honeycomb, structural foam that allow the outer rail profiles to flex and compress at a different rate to that of the more rigid central core. This enables the rails to contort in the wave face for optimum edge control, while the central core maintains a more streamlined profile for maximum board speed.

Slick Skins

High Density Slick Skin (HD) Hard wearing, high density slick skin for stiffness and speed.
Surlyn Slick Skin Finest grade authentic Dupont Surlyn slick skin. Surlyn exhibits rubber-like properties for superior projection.

Tails

Crescent Tail Classic 40 radius curve cut, for rider comfort and quick release. The tail blocks are precision cut for maximum drive out of the bottom turns.
Bat Tail Protruding bulb increases the boards planning area for optimal down the line speed. The wings lock the tail in throughout the turn. Machine rounded deck contour for rider comfort.

Board Features

Stringer Systems A stringer is a hollow, filament wound composite fibre tube used for board strength and instant recoil.
Mesh Systems Mesh is a diamond shaped plastic mesh weave, laminated between the core and the slick for improved stiffness and recoil.
Deck Bulbs Raised nose grips placed on the top of the core, under the deck skin, to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand.
Slick Bulbs Raised nose grips shaped into the corners of the Surlyn bottom, ergonomically formed for fingertip control.
Graduated Channels laminar flow of the water along the rail/hull for enhanced edge control.
Deck Contours Deck contours are ergonomically designed deck profiles that lock the hips and forearms.
Thermal Formed Deck A thermal formed deck is a contoured skin that allows traction in the essential areas due to the embossed patterns formed on the deck. The 'feel' a rider receives from these contours give greater grip and traction to the board.
