The DVD specifications are a mechanism to prevent playback of certain discs in certain assigned countries or regions. Each DVD player is given a unique number for the region (or country) where it is sold and does not play back discs which are not distributed for the intended region
Most modern DVD players will play all regions but you should check first before you purchase DVD’s from foreign countries. In Australia we are Region 4 – This covers Australia , New Zealand , Pacific Islands , Central America , Mexico , South America , and the Caribbean
