There’s nothing wrong with growing into a bodyboard, but bare in mind the bigger the board, the harder it’s going to be for the rider to control. Should you venture a few inches beyond that of your recommended size category, you’re going to find the board throws you around---- perhaps more so than what you’re able to throw it. Rest assured a bigger sized board can allow the rider an easier ride in smaller waves in regard to getting on the wave and staying on the wave. Control by comparison might be something of a different ordeal.
For these reasons we recommend kid bodyboarders stick to kids bodyboards. The kids bodyboard will allow the kid maximum control without by any means sacrificing growing room and or buoyancy.
